The subject matter of "Simmer Down" made The Wailers stand out amongst their contemporaries. Up until then no one in Jamaican music had expressed the ghettology thoughts within their song writing lyrics. Clement Dodd summoned his in house finest musicians specially for the Simmer Down session. Ernest Ranglin to arrange the music, while Don Drummond, Jamaica's master of trombone playing, added his profoundly imaginative jazzy notes to blend in. Don Drummond was the virtuoso performer of a group of musicians who would very soon be working together, for a little over a year, under the name of The Skatalites. Coxsone became a father figure to Bob Marley, and to a lesser extent, Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh. When Clement Seymour Dodd learnt that Robert Marley did not have a mind of his own, he made deal with Bob Marley. Coxsone Dodd laid a new task upon Bob Marley. He made a decision for Bob Marley to become the person responsible for tuition of new budding artists who came to the recording studio for audition. Bob's job was to find new songs for them and also help with the rehearsing of the tunes, and in return, Clement Dodd would let him take up residence at the studio. Coxsone would let Bob Marley sleep in the same room that was used for auditions and rehearsals. | | Bob Marley's very first assignments was to organize the Soulettes, a female group formed by Rita Anderson, who was destine to become the wife of Robert Nester Marley Rita Anderson Soulettes consisted of her long time female friend from her school days: Marlene 'Precious' Gifford with her cousin Constantine 'Dream' Walker. There and then Bob fell in love with Rita. Bob's remoteness towards Rita contributed to her perplexity, when she received letters delivered by Bunny Wailer which contained love notes to her written by the shy introverted Bob Marley. |
