When Perry realised that Bob Marley had stolen two his crack musicians, he was justifiably enraged, so much the in actual fact he threatened to exterminate Bob Marley from the scene of life. But when both of them finally met with each other, they decided to settle the matter once and for all, and judging from the shouting and high pitch sound of their voices, everyone in the vicinity of their voices thought that one of them would be ending up in a hospital or the boneyard, but. that was not to be, they emerged from behind closed doors a few hours later, arms around each other with smiles on their faces and slapping each other on the back. The way in which Lee Perry put over his decision to work with Marley was unexpectedly charming, and although the Upsetters were still joining The Wailers, their exclusive producer was to be the one and only the maestro, Lee "Scratch" Perry. At first when Bob Marley decided to go back to Lee Perry and told him that he was the man with the sound the Wailers wanted. Lee Perry was not in the least amused, neither was he swayed by Bob Marley's notions. Lee Perry was never too keen on working with vocal groups or singers. While Bob Marley was trying convince Lee Perry that they should work together, Perry was busy concentrating on those deadly Upsetters instrumentals that the band had become famous for. But Bob Marley was persistent, and sang the words to the song, "My Cup." That song really touched a one of those soft spots in Perry's system. "My cup is running over and I don't know what to do." Lee Perry knew that he was hearing an artist's true confession. Yes indeed, Bob Marley's cup was running over and he didn't know who to turn to. Marley had no choice but to go to Lee Perry. |
