Music Teaching Roman Catholic Nun!

Roland Alphonso born in Cuba but grew up in Jamaica and learned his music at the Stony Hill boys school at the age of 10. While there he learnt how to play the drums, but after Roland's Mother visited the school he made the switch to being the saxophone at the age of 13, on his mother's intervention. It was 16 years after at the age of 29 that he began recording for Coxsone Dodd along with Cluet Johnson a double bass guitar player. Like the Alpha boys school,  the Stony Hill school for boys was also controlled by a Roman Catholic Nun. 1960s became the golden era of Jamaican music that set the foundation of modern Reggae music. In that era of the 1960s Coxsone produced the "Freedom Time" ska tune that had blazed a trail throughout Jamaica!  

  

New grown talents with session musicians were cutting their teeth at Coxsone's Studio One School of Music. Dodd's recording studio was where all young budding artistes wanted to be. As ska evolved into Rock Steady, Clement Seymour Dodd recorded some of the greatest Rock Steady riddims by budding up and coming artistes such as Alton Ellis, Slim Smith, Marcia Griffiths and vocal trio British chart smash hit that was to become one of Studio One's most prolific recording trio. The early 1970s, saw even more artistes joining the Studio One stable name that later become household names such as Horace Andy, Dennis Brown, Burning Spear, John Holt and the Souls. But most of all it was Coxsone was first to discover the late Bob Marley!

 

Bob Marley went on to become Jamaica's most famous productive recording superstar son, popularising Jamaican music all over the global sphere The early 70s, saw even more artistes joining the Studio One stable name that later become household names such as Horace Andy, Dennis Brown, Burning Spear, John Holt and the Soul Brothers. But most of all Coxsone discovered the late and great Bob Marley went on to become Jamaica's most famous productive recording superstar son popularising Jamaican music all over the global sphere!
