Jamaican Trombonist Don Drummond!

A history of  vinyl  feature would not be complete without a mention of the exuberance Ska music that captured the imagination of the music world gaining popularity throughout Europe and the rest of the world including the Australia, United States, Japan, China, Africa, and even India to name a few. Skatalites band is still strong today, even though most of the originals of the band are gone! they not long ago made an appearance at the Blackheath Centre in the UK 4th July 2001 The Ska has undergone copious waves of revival. The question is asked. What so special about the Ska? Ever since the early sixties ska music has urbanized Jamaica it has gained world wide acclamation?

  

In the 1970s there was a ska revival by the two-tone recording studio in the United Kingdom! Then again throughout Europe, and a fourth wave in the United States, and its here again! Yet  the original ska sound still reigned supreme. It’s the musical genre that has refused to go away, no other genre of music has created such great impact upon world of music! It is now more than 7 generations since the Ska first appeared on the melodic scenario of the music world in the 60s. Since the early 1940s, Jamaica had taken on board and personalised many forms of American musical styles.  Since the early 1940s, Jamaica had taken on board and personalised many forms of American musical styles!

 

By the time World War II ended, there has been innumerable amount of bands in Jamaica playing the dances. Assemblage such like Eric Deans Orchestra, featuring the top Jamaican Trombone genius; Don Drummond. Don Drummond and the masterful enigmatic guitarist, Ernest Ranglin were the two ambassadors of  ska music era, and at one time Don Drummond was rated in the top 4 of all time great trombonist in the world. Earnest Ranglin is Jamaica greatest jazz guitarist. Don was the ska music writer and Earnest was the arranger!
