The Rude Boy Anthems

Prince Buster established a mix and blend of restricted roots musical forms; using ingredients such as Mento and Buru with a reinforcement of jazz horns, mixed with R&B. Prince Buster's idea constructed a decidedly unique new sound. The creation of Ska turned the R 'n' B rhythmic outline inside out by utilizing and coordinating an after-beat guitar strut on the second and fourth heats. A lot of the songs that Prince Buster produced were no doubt unquestionably political, in that they embraced a Marcus Garvey type mind-set of narcissisms and pride in blackness with the effects of Africanisms taste. Prince Buster's production of the Folks Brothers "Oh Carolina" in 1960 was the very first recording to use the Count Ossie Rastafarian rhythmical drumming group for the backing accompaniment. The Ska combines the haunting backbeat of New Orleans R 'n' B and Mento.

The Ska roots is authentically from New Orleans. Characteristically the Ska drums pressurized the beats at 2 & 4 over a "free walking" quarter note bass with the guitar arresting the offbeat in a synchronized Mento fashion. Ska music comparatively became well known and the so-called Rude Boy anthems about the antagonisms in the ghettos that took on a cult following. Prince Buster invented an imaginary mythological character of "Judge Dread" who dispensed with 400-year sentences to "Rude Boys". Desmond Dekker's "007 Shanty Town" release was the most conclusive of the rude boy conventional titles attaining a number 14 position in the UK charts during the 60's. Ska was all the rage in the United Kingdom due to the Prince Buster UK hit of "Wash Wash" a version of the Paul Robeson classic "Old Man River." His tune "Madness" created a cult following.
