Blending Of Ska Music!

The Great Don Drummond and the masterful enigmatic guitarist, Ernest Ranglin drawn from their American counterparts such as the likes of Duke Ellington, Woody Herman, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Glen Miller, Benny Goodman, Coleman Hawkins, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, and Tommy Dorsey.  If you can comprehend the history of the vinyl record you must empathize with the viewpoints and mind-set of the time. Yea the ska had a touch of Mento music and a blending of Buru drums. Don Drummond went on to form the authentic instrumental group "The Skatalites". The leadership of the Skatalites band was later taken over by Tommy McCook before he joined up with Duke Reid as music arranger. Musical Maestros include: Tommy McCook and Roland Alphonso "Tenor Sax, Lester Sterling - "Baritone Sax," Dizzy Moore "Trumpet", Jackie Mittoo -"Organ & Piano" Jah Gerry - "Bass," Lloyd Brivette - "Guitar," Lloyd Knibbs - "Drums," Lord Tanamo (began his career as a calypso singer) - Vocals!

 

World War II brought about an inducement for a change in technology to the entire conception of the musical scenario on the world wide stage and the British Empire was was putrefying prior to the war and had been going through a steady decline during the post war period and Britain was being put under extreme pressure to end colonialism rule. In the year 1954, the first big Jazz concert was staged at the Ward Theatre on Spanish Town Road in Kingston. The traditional Mento and calypso bands were frequent in hotels mainly for tourist attraction all over the Jamaica WI!
