Technology of The CD

However, Emile Berliner's  description of his Gramophone record in an augmentation idealistic nuance, is as follows: "A talking machine in which a sound is first traced into a fatty film covering a metal surface and which is then subjected to the action of an acid or engraving solution which consume the record into the metal. This record being of an incessant wavy line of even deepness is then revolved, which not only pulsates and duplicates the sound chamber but also propels the equivalent by holding its stylus in the record groove The original record can be reproduced infinitum (Time without end - continual reproduction from the master copy) by first making an electrified reversible matrix or template and then pressing the latter into hard rubber, celluloid or comparable material which is yielding when warm and quite robust when cold.”

Note: Emile Berliner's zinc master idea also led to the advent of the  Acetate recordings that has a metal plate with black plastic type coating on top for demo, mainly used by radio stations. Emil Berliner application of a technique which provided a master record from that which duplicated copies could be made. His technological idea was in use for nearly 100 years. The concept of a spiral groove carrying a continuously varying analogue representation of the original sound remained the most widely used method of sound reproduction until the introduction of the CD  late 1980's.This new technology of the CD concept brought about the storing of sound with the use of a digital coding that became the new direction in sound reproduction. Even so, manufacturers today are still using the same technology Emile Berliner discovered years ago.
