Lee Perry decided that a Duppy (ghost, evil apparitions) was responsible for Bob Marley's troubles, and proceeded to write the lyrics for "Duppy Conqueror" and Small Axe for Bob. The Wailers, The Upsetters, and Lee Perry headed for the studio, The masterful Lee "scratch" Perry stood up boldly in front of his musical laboratory controls mixer combined the Wailers along with the Upsetter band and transformed them into a musical seismic activity. Partnership - Bob laid down rhythm section, Bob Marley and the Wailers sang as if their very lives depended on the lyrics of the songs. The combination of Bob and The Wailers, Partnership - Bob , and Lee Perry's sense of innovative adventures along with his musical mix and blend science. Lee Perry began blending with a touch of spiritual exigency depicting the determination of a Methodist Preacher in his element uttering strange tongues, that signalled the turning point of both their careers. Lee "scratch" Perry's musical science brought about a course of incomparable changes in the history of Jamaican Reggae music, that subsequently laid the foundation for Bob Marley's consequential world stage of success. The chemistry between The Upsetters, Bob Marley, The Wailers and the technician maestro Lee "scratch" Perry, proved to be an extremely extraordinary musical blend of rhythms that was never before born out of the guts of Jamaica. Together, they produced classical Reggae gems that left other record producers gasping in awe at the quality sounds coming from the mixing lab of Lee Perry's Black Ark Studio. Bob tried in vain recoup the same kind of magical science as in the Black Ark studio in his later career by re-recorded many of the songs produced by Lee Perry. But alas, that unique science and magical mystery of the Lee "scratch" Perry sessions has never been bettered. |
