Clement Seymour Dodd has been the beneficiary of countless honours, praises awards and even receiving the Jamaica Order of Distinction, the third highest honour given by the Jamaican government for his contributions to the Jamaican music industry first as a sound system operator and proprietor who went on to own the first self sufficient recording studio in Jamaica where he made his name as producer of the Jamaica famous studio one records! Clement Dodd created a record label that was to become famous all over the world. known as the Studio One Label. His career in music span over six decades, having set a daunting and imposing standard of imaginative brilliance that played a decisive important role in moulding the Jamaican music industry that gained fame and global embracement liken to America's Mowtown Sounds. Clement Seymour Dodd was born in Kingston, Jamaica WI on 26th January 1932 to Mr & Mrs Benjamin Dodd. Clement Seymour Dad was local building contractor and a liquor store administrative! | | While attending the All Saints School in Kingston he was moniker with the name of Coxsone, due to his dexterity in the field as an all-round cricketer. The British Coxsone was a brilliant batsman who played for Yorkshire cricket club during the early 1940s. Dodd had a brief spell when only seventeen gained a farm working contract as a cane cutter in the USA. Clement Dodd was well hip on music he heard. Rhythm & Blues, Jazz, Be-Bop and Swing was quite popular in the USA. This gave him an idea which he could take back to his native land! |
