| | Clement Seymour Dodd was between the ages of seventeen or eighteen years old when he began his career as a sound system operator from owning one PA sound equipment that expanded to several large and powerful sound systems which he could hire out to various venues whether it is day or night ranging from house parties, wedding receptions open air garden party and dance halls Clement Dodd sound systems became one of the most respected sounds and through Coxsone's genius his sound systems developed into one of the most popular sound system in Jamaica where everyone who was anybody wanted to have Sir Coxsone the Downbeat to play at their parties or wedding reception hiring one or more of his sound systems to play at venues the same day, bigger the crowd following, the more often that sound system will win at competition. Clement Coxsone Dodd had a selection of some of the best turntable disc jockeys for his many sound systems including names such as Count Machuki, King Stitt, and Prince Buster who later went on to become famous in their own rights as recording DJs, singers and record producers in which they help towards the recording industry development. But as disc jockeys they would spin the exclusive records Coxsone had obtained from abroad at any given venue and on any given night. Clement Dodd was a whole hearted business person who had the clever knack of making money and apart from his sound system business he was able to persuade anyone who contracted his sound system to order their drinks from the family liquor store in Beeston Street, Kingston. | |
